What is therapy like? What can therapy offer?
These questions have a thousand answers because everyone brings something they uniquely need to therapy. Therapy is an investment in yourself that will enrich your most significant relationships. Most people enter therapy wanting something to be different, or to change for the better. And, the relationship you hold with yourself is just as influential as the relationships surrounding you.
Some people need a place to “put” their thoughts, longings, or pain. Some people need new ways of thinking about an issue, & that in and of itself is sufficient in helping discover their own solutions. Couples often need pragmatic ways of finding their way back to one another, while others need help dissolving their relationship with respect, keeping good parenting in mind when appropriate. Teens often need a place to “vent” and hear an adult perspective, while acquiring tools to develop their own strong sense of self. If you have experienced trauma, you might need help developing inner states that feel safe and protected before you begin to work on addressing the trauma.
A special note: The experience of trauma affects every person differently, and there is no “right” way to deal with it. My training in EMDR, resourcing, and mindfulness offers research-based ways to help calm and regulate the mind and body as you begin the healing process.
Besides individual, couple, and family sessions, I also facilitate several small groups designed to both educate and support people.
Women’s Sexuality Group
A place for adult women of all ages and orientations to talk about sex, sexuality, our bodies, and intimacy. How we learned about sex and intimacy exerts great influence on how we approach and cultivate sexual relationships with ourselves & others. Most of us are keenly interested in being able to ask questions & seek information without censoring ourselves. This group offers a format for a genuine exploration into our sexual selves, and has included exploring sexual fantasies, taking ownership of our sexuality, discussing preferences in (& out!) of the bedroom with sweethearts, sex after kids, rekindling passion within long term relationships, and finding the best lube for your body’s needs.
